you won't find me listening to folk music, though

It's been a long time since I've lived somewhere totally new. I've moved 5 times in the last 5-6 years but just from 7th street to St. Mark's to 6th, back to St. Mark's and then a second building on St. Mark's. So I've been at home in this neighborhood for quite a while now. I know where everything is, what places suck, who delivers the fastest.

My new neighborhood is a mystery to me. I am such a cliche. Do they have delivery in Red Hook? Can I drop off my laundry? It's disconcerting, but in a kind of exhilarating way. I feel all badass Intrepid Explorer - not only do I live alone, I live alone in a strange land.

All this newness leads to strange things though. I left the apartment Sunday afternoon to return to the East Village for pizza 'n' paper (which I will continue to do until/unless I find a pizza place in Brooklyn that has both good pizza and a good view for people watching. Anyone?) and as I was crossing Court Street on my way to the F I saw a cute storefront. Upon closer inspection it turned out to be a vegan restaurant. Now, I'm not anti-vegan or anything, but any diet that denies one the joy of cheese is not for me. But as I read the menu, which includes some freshly delicious sounding fruity smoothies and spinach-y quesadillas (dairy or non), I found myself intrigued. If real dairy is an option, perhaps I need not be so hasty in judging the vegan lifestyle.

Right next door to the vegan place was another storefront I'd noted earlier and wanted to check out. A yoga center. Everyone and their mother seems to be into yoga, even people I love and respect, and I've vaguely been meaning to give it a try. So I picked up a schedule which included their (very reasonable) prices and tried to figure out how to fit a class into my schedule.

To recap: I've been in Brooklyn two days and already I've checked out a vegan restaurant and a yoga place. When I start kissing girls, you'll be the first to know.
