the bitch is backI know. I'm a terrible person. I should hand in my domain name and Movable Type license and leave the Internet to those who are truly dedicated to the blog movement. In my defense it hasn't been since May, technically. I wrote once in June then the computer that hosts sassy died a death of neglect and in the move to a new server some things were lost (temporarily, but the likelihood I'll ever get around to copying over the missing stuff is slim to none, as is probably obvious by now).
But enough, who gives a shit, what's NEW? Everything. I'm going to have to resort to the bulleted list to catch up:
- Work. Work is hard. There is a lot of it. In fact, I've only found the time to catch up right now because the site is messed UP (sorry, ryan) and so I can't do anything. Despite the hardness, and the busyness, and the frequent crying-at-my-deskness (there IS crying in baseball), I really do still enjoy it here. It sounds lame, but I just really like being stretched to the fullest, and then a little bit more. I like actually being able to rise to the challenges that get thrown at me almost daily. It's not brain surgery, and no matter how management seems to act as if it's so, we are not saving lives here. It's baseball. It's a GAME. But it's also one of the biggest brands in the world and it's nice being a part of something so big. It's nice that I am able to keep up. (fingers crossed)
- Home. Home is also hard. If my apartment were a boy, we would so be breaking up. The apartment next door, while still empty of two-legged assholes, is teeming with multi-legged jerkoffs - bugs! And they are visiting me completely uninvited and it is grossing me OUT. And I have been away from home so often (more on this below) that it's just a giant hole of barren neglect. But I have a new plan of much Plannyness to rectify this sad, pathetic situation.
- Boys. Or, more accurately, Boy. As in boyfriend. As in, I have one. And though he is not the reason I have been such an awful friend and person in general for so long (that'd be work), I do spend a lot of time with him and that is mighty fine. Also in the mighty fine category is his apartment, where I am spending a boatload of my time, totally cheating on my own apartment. He lives walking distance from work! Restaurants deliver to him! The Hook cannot compete with that. So, yeah, meet Chris. We work together, and after going out once we figured out that we have like 4,000 friends in common and if not for MLB would probably have met eventually anyway. New York is the smallest town ever, there are like only 47 people total.
Oh, speaking of restaurants, I have been a dining out WHORE lately. Chris and his sister and brother-in-law are masters of fine dining and so in the past two months alone, I've had lobster rolls at 3 different places (Pearl Oyster Bar is the clear winner and possibly the best lobster roll ever that isn't from a roadside shack in Maine or something), the best brunch this brunch-hater's ever had at Blue Ribbon Bakery and much much more. We've got an informal pizza survey going on too, since we've been to Di Fara, Otto and Lombardi's in the past month. I can't pick a favorite yet, I'm going to wait til the end of the summer. Additionally, I have had enough gelato to kill a man and yet I continually crave more. Just talking about it makes me want some right now.
Gah. This is worse than writing nothing at all. But I did save the best for last. The single most awesome thing I have gotten to experience in my life thus far happened last week. There are some nifty perks to working here, not least of which is The Pass, but far cooler is the yearly Company Softball BBQ Picnic, which takes place.....at Shea Stadium. I am of course a fan of that other stadium in the Bronx, but being allowed to go on the field, and behind the field, and in the dugout at any ballpark is way wicked hella amazing. I took a gihugic amount of pictures, and here are the best ones.
