61 Down

I'm running low on patience this week in general and I just knew the admittedly simple process of finding something in iTunes then synching it to the phone would end in tears. (Yes, I am a delicate flower right now.)

But then magically I remembered that I could actually download songs directly from the phone - a feature I never had any use for until now, since it only works when you're wifi connected and if I'm at home already, I'll normally just use the laptop, thanks. Then even more magically — supermagically! — I thought of exactly what I wanted to hear. So I hit up iPhoneTunes, found the album and was on my way.

This morning I told the above story to Chris and, since the album I downloaded was one from my teenage years, we had a good laugh over how teen Beth was all about this album while teen Chris thought it was megalame (as teen Chris = classic rock Chris).

We also got into whether one can have indie rock cred for something you only owned on cassette. I feel you get credit for the content, but I concede Chris's point that bragging rights are hard to come by when a) who still has a cassette player? and b) chances are your 22 year old cassette probably doesn't work anymore anyway.

This afternoon I met up with Heather, had a few margaritas in the NYU Zone and told her the same story. (As well as another story, which is that I saw the Most Bizarre segment on NY1 this morning involving an interview with Johnny Damon and the fact that he is Thai. Seriously, the entire segment was just like, "Hey, Johnny Damon? Asian. Really!")

This evening while watching the Yankee game (way to go, Thai Johnny and the gang!) I did today's NYTimes crossword puzzle. The clue for 61-Down: Band with the 1987 single "Dear God".

That is some spooky shit right there. Especially because the particular thing I was expecting that cred from Chris for was the fact that my low fi cassette does not have "Dear God" on it as I bought it before it was reissued with that song added.

It's like I'm living in a Lost episode over here.

Johnny Damon wants to be a role model for other Thai baseball players. I saw that segment too and was all, "WHA?" then, this morning I saw the segment on the Sikh community leader in Queens and Pat was all, "It's ASIAN week on NY1!"
