polishing the resume

The good news is the doctor called to say I do not have a bone spur or a bone shard or any untoward bone gremlins plaguing my foot. I guess that means it's the plantar fasciitis. The bad news is that means there's not much I can do about it aside from rest, ice, ibuprofen and supportive shoes. Which is small comfort in the face of this hellacious pain.

The super bad news is that today our lil buddy CTG was laid off from the Death Star. This is sad and frustrating for him of course, but also for everyone there, who had to say goodbye not just to a friend, but to a competent, valuable coworker. We're not letting him go anywhere though, he's stuck with us, coworker or not.

There have been far too many layoffs amongst my friends and family lately. It seems like I've been through this before, back in the dark, dark days of the Bubble but this feels different. It's not just Internet bubbles bursting this time, it's publishing, architecture, public relations, marketing. It's everywhere and anywhere and it feels much scarier this time around. Maybe it's not, maybe it's the same and I'm just too old for this shit, but I'll say this: if Chris or I get the axe next, I'm done. You can find us on a beach somewhere, I can't survive another round of unemployment in NYC.

My sympathies on the plantar fasciitis - I fight a bad case on and off myself, and it's no fun at all. I hope the rest/ice/ibuprofen does the trick, but if not, you may want to look into night splints to sleep in. Mine is a lot better when I'm sleeping in a splint at least a night or two a week.
