the future isn't now

We have a Time Warner Cable DVR and frequently run into the problem of wanting to watch something (usually a sports event) while two things are already recording. No problem, it's 2012, everything is on the internet somewhere now!

Except not. Leaving aside torrenty type shenanigans, there is no way for me to watch network TV shows online as things currently stand. The internet has lied to me! I really thought those I Cancelled Cable People were watching everything through some combo of pay internet services, like Hulu Plus, or waiting like a day or something. But we have Hulu Plus and Netflix and a Roku and an Apple TV and access to network websites and the Time Warner iPad app and On Demand channels and yet still the other night I was recording New Girl and Ringer (I can't give up now, with Logan Echolls all up in that business!) and C wanted to watch his Villanova basketball game of sadness and none of those places had either show available to watch. The only solution was to wait EIGHT DAYS from the original airing.

I'm not saying TV should be free, I'm saying I'm paying for TV - in multiple ways! - but if too many things are on at the same time I'm shit out of luck. I wouldn't even mind waiting a day to watch something on Hulu or On Demand (again, things I pay for!) but eight days is madness.

Grumble, grumble, grumble. It's completely possible I'm just an idiot and have missed the simple solution to this nonproblem. If so, set me straight.

I have a queue system in Hulu so i can have it save shows automatically, never had to wait 8 days. SCREW CABLE

But is that for all shows? Because Chris got a Hulu plus gift subscription and I looked there and the 2 shows I wanted to watch = no luck til 8 days.

That's why I'm wondering if I'm just doing it wrong? Because people talk about watching on Hulu all the time and I NEVER find the shows I actually watch there.
